Leading from the Front: Robin Cook (Langseth)

Discipline, resilience, and a people-first leadership style driving excellence in stevedoring operations

In an industry traditionally dominated by men, Robin Cook (Langseth) stands out not only as a leader, but as a trailblazer. This Women’s History Month, her story reflects resilience, discipline, and a deep-rooted passion for logistics and the global supply chain.

Robin’s journey began in the United States Marine Corps, where she served four years and developed a strong foundation in logistics. That early experience shaped her career path and leadership philosophy. “I came home, needed a job, and logistics is what I knew,” she explains. What started as a practical decision evolved into a lifelong passion for an industry that demands precision, adaptability, and constant movement.

Over the past two decades, Robin has built an impressive career across major ports and logistics organizations, ultimately becoming the first female port captain in one of her previous roles, an achievement that underscores her commitment to opening doors for other women in maritime operations.

Now serving as General Manager of Stevedoring Services in Freeport for AMPORTS, Robin oversees the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vessels, specializing in roll-on/roll-off cargo. Her day-to-day responsibilities are anything but routine. From coordinating vessel plans and managing labor to ensuring safety compliance and meeting strict customer timelines, Robin operates at the center of a highly complex environment. She must constantly balance speed with precision, making real-time decisions that impact both operational performance and customer satisfaction.

A key asset in her role is her remarkable ability to visualize and memorize vessel layouts and yard operations. Robin can study a vessel plan and quickly recall where cargo is located or where it needs to go, an uncommon skill that enhances efficiency and minimizes errors. This spatial awareness, combined with her analytical mindset, allows her to anticipate challenges before they arise.

“You have to be able to look at the big picture and break it down into smaller pieces.”

Robin’s leadership philosophy is rooted in action. “I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty… you lead by showing,” she shares. That hands-on approach has helped her build strong, committed teams who mirror her work ethic and accountability.

“In a traditionally male-dominated industry like maritime and logistics, one of the biggest obstacles has been having to establish credibility quickly and consistently. I’ve often been in environments where I was one of very few women, so I had to communicate with confidence and lead in a way that earned respect through performance. Over time, that challenge became a strength. It pushed me to be results-driven, build strong operational knowledge, and create teams where accountability and respect go hand in hand.”

Beyond her professional achievements, Robin’s personal journey is equally inspiring. She recently remarried and is a proud mother of two grown sons. Outside of work, she serves on the board of a veterans’ organization in Southeast Texas, helping connect fellow veterans with critical resources and support. She is also a cancer survivor, an experience that reshaped her perspective on health and balance. Today, she prioritizes fitness, personal well-being, and setting boundaries, lessons she carries into her leadership approach. In her free time, she enjoys working out and is a passionate baseball fan, especially when it comes to cheering on the Houston Astros.

Robin Cook (Langseth) exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose, breaking barriers, inspiring others, and driving excellence across the supply chain.
