AMPORTS begins shipping GM Vehicles through the Port of Altamira
06/30/09

Today the first export shipment of GM vehicles has been embarked through AMPORTS facility in Altamira . This initial shipment consisted of Chevrolet subcompact vehicles, known as Chevys, which are sold in Mexico and South America . The units will depart onboard the M/V Rio Nevado vessel, of the steamship line CSAV outbound to Chile and Peru.

It is important to note that this is the first time ever that vehicles arrived at the Port of Altamira by railroad. With this new rail operation General Motors will experience improved handling efficiencies and reduced transit time of its units to the port.

In the coming months additional export operations and other steamship lines, like K-Line, will be added including different models and an interesting mix of international markets such as Brazil , Uruguay , Paraguay , Colombia , among others.

This is a result of the combined efforts of General Motors and AMPORTS to take advantage of the shorter distances, improved transit times and quality services that AMPORTS is delivering at this facility, which in the end translate to important savings for our customers.
